NICU Follow-up Care

The early stress from your baby’s time in the NICU can have lasting effects on cognitive, social-emotional, behavioral, communication, and academic outcomes. Neuroprotective care is one of our best defenses against the effects of NICU stress on infants and their developing brains. If neonates were still in utero, they would be hearing everything the mother is saying. In the NICU, however, babies are exposed to a lot less language, increasing their chances of speech and language delays. With NICU follow-up care, neuroprotective therapy strategies will be implemented to prevent cell death and be a step ahead to promote development.

Early Intervention Speech + Language

Evaluation and treatment of speech (i.e., articulation, phonological, and motor speech disorders), and developmental and acquired language disorders (i.e., comprehension, vocabulary) for families of infants and young children (birth to 5 years) with developmental delays or disabilities. Early Intervention is critically important in supporting the development of children to improve overall communication skills, enhance confidence, and support academic and social success.

Swallowing

Evaluation and treatment of individuals with dysphagia to improve oral motor skills such as strengthening the muscles involved in chewing and swallowing.

Feeding

Evaluation and treatment of individuals with feeding difficulties, aiming to improve oral motor skills, expand food acceptance and variety, increase independence in feeding, enhance mealtime behavior, and promote healthy eating habits.

Lactation

Prenatal and Postnatal support are offered. Evaluation and treatment of the breastfeeding dyad (caregiver and infant) addresses any lactation concerns or difficulties, improves breastfeeding techniques, ensures optimal milk transfer, provides evidence-based information to help families make informed decisions, delivers emotional support, and creates a positive relationship for lactating mothers with breastfeeding.

Early Literacy

Development of foundational skills in preparation for reading and writing including print awareness and print concepts, phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, vocabulary, listening comprehension, narrative skills, and phonemic awareness.

Social Communication

Treatment that focuses on enhancing the ability to understand and use social cues appropriately (e.g., turn-taking, interpreting body language, maintaining eye contact, engaging in social interactions).
